Gary Birch

Gary Lue Birch May 29, 1943 – June 13, 2015 Gary Lue Birch, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the McKay Dee Hospital on June 13, 2015, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Gary was the oldest child of Lue Shaw Birch and Lucile Mary Todd. He was born in Brigham City, Utah. He lived his entire life in Ogden and West Point, Utah. Gary was educated in Ogden City schools and he enjoyed his participation on the football and wrestling teams during his years at Ogden High School. Following high school, Gary entered the military, serving as a faithful, proud Marine. Gary married Dana Fuhriman on September 7, 1962, in the Logan LDS Temple, they were later divorced. He married Lara Lois Christensen, they were later divorced. He married Tammy Houghton, they were later divorced. On September 28, 2007, he married Donna Onstott. Gary was employed by Sperry Univac and Hill Air Force Base, until his retirement in 1993. Following retirement, he enjoyed a short career in the sales industry. Gary was an active member of the LDS Church where he loved serving in numerous capacities including the Bishopric, High Priest Group Leadership, and home teacher. He enjoyed any opportunity where he could be of service to others. Gary was also a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. Gary was a person of many talents and possessed in-depth knowledge and skill in several areas. He also possessed a deep love and interest in Native American Culture. He was well respected for his vast knowledge and skill in improving breeding lines and training of retrievers and hunting dogs, especially Labrador Retrievers. He prided himself in producing National Grand Champion dogs from his Hunka Papa Kennel. Gary thrived on meeting new people and making new friends, regardless of the situation, and was unique in his ability to remember names and faces. Gary leaves a legacy of love, service, and great generosity. He is survived by his father; his wife Donna; daughters Michelle (Scott) Blain, Janine (Brian) Porter, DeAnn (Travis) Howell, Cherie (Ryan) Winterton, and Julie (Amber) Birch; sons Scott (Beth) Birch, and Aaron Birch; his siblings Patsy (Rodney) Wintle, MaryLu (Patrick) Sheehan, and Michael (Jill) Birch. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and his infant sister Marilyn. Funeral services will by held Friday at the Orchard Park Ward Chapel, 3270 Orchard Avenue, Ogden, Utah at 11:00 A.M. Family and friends may call Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden; and Friday at the Church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Hoffman and the Critical Care Team at McKay Dee Hospital.
