Boyd Putnam VIEW PROFILE

Boyd Putnam Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend, Boyd Lester Putnam followed his son, David, home to the arms of his Father in Heaven on October 2, 2013. Boyd was born on March 26, 1943, the son of Lester Roosevelt Putnam and Kathryn Nelson in Ogden, Utah. Boyd attended school in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1961. Boyd started his love story at the local A&W drive-in when he met the love of his life, his eternal sweetheart, Carolyn Eckersley. They were married for time and all eternity on August 24, 1964 in Salt Lake City Latter-day Saint Temple. Their love story continued for 49 years, produced six children and 12 grandchildren in this life, and will continue through eternity. As a young boy, Boyd sang with a boys' choir and toured the country as a boy soprano, and sang on the steps of the National Capital building in Washington, DC. As a young man he sang with the Ogden High Choir, and then sang with various groups and church choirs throughout his life. Boyd sang in the Ogden Temple Dedication Choir, and was looking forward to repeating that service when the new Ogden Temple was finished. Boyd had a beautiful baritone/bass voice, and blessed the lives of many over his lifetime with his gift of song. Boyd was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings including as a member of the bishopric, stake missionary, young men's leader, home teacher, and scouts. His final calling was as the ward webmaster. He was a member of the Pleasant View 2nd Ward at time of his death. Boyd served the city of North Ogden as a councilman for four years. Boyd also had the opportunity to serve on the 2002 Olympic Volunteer Staff. Boyd was a hard worker, and worked at the U.S. Post Office before transferring to Hill Air Force Base. He worked at the base for many years, until he quit to sell real estate in the early 80's. A few years later he reinstated at the post office, and worked there until he retired in 2001. While at the post office, he served as the President of the Local Branch 68 of the National Association of Letter Carriers from 1993-1995. Boyd served his country as a lifetime reservist with the United States Air Force, awarded the rank of MSgt and retired with 20 years' service to his country. In his retirement, he enjoyed all the time spent with his eternal sweetheart, his beloved grandchildren, and traveling with their dear friends Darrell (Debra) Clarke, and Eldon (Sharon) Badger. He was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Calvin; sister, Susan; and son, David Boyd Putnam. He is survived by his eternal companion, Carolyn; three sons, Scott (Len) Putnam, Adam (Diana) Putnam, Ryan (Liz) Putnam; two daughters, Cherri Putnam (Ann Miller), Michelle (Putnam) Gretta; and his 12 beloved grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, hospice workers, and other professionals at McKay-Dee Hospital for their kind and dedicated service to him and the family during this unexpected and difficult time. Funeral Services will be held at the Pleasant View 2nd Ward Chapel, 250 West Elberta Drive, Pleasant View UT on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 1PM. A viewing will be held Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden UT from 6 - 8 PM, and at the Pleasant View 2nd Ward Chapel on Monday from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Internment Ben Lomond Cemetery, in North Ogden, Utah
