Saturday, May 14, 1966 DROWNING VICTIM is removed from Pine View Reservoir early today. The victim was Ralph Leon Smauldon, 21, whose car went off highway some 175 feet above the dam. Two other people swam to safety after their car left U-39 and sank in 15 feet of water early this morning at Pine View Reservoir. Killed in the mishap was Ralph Leon Smauldon, 23, whose car left the road about 175 east of Pine View Dam. Passengers, both in the front seat of the four-door sedan with Mr- Smauldon, were Albert Hall, 19, and Candia Kennedy, 13. Weber County Sheriff's deputies said the car apparently left the highway about 5 a.m. at a high rate of speed. After it went into the water, Mr. Hall made his way out of the vehicle and pulled Miss Kennedy out after him. He told officers he saw Mr. Smauldon attempting to escape about 5:40 a.m.

Ralph’s mother’s obituary appeared in the Ogden Standard Examiner in Jan 2006.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ralph Leon Smauldon..
