1942 ~ 2009

Gregory Darrell Upp, at the age of 66, peacefully passed away on Friday afternoon, April 17, 2009, in his Grantsville, Utah, home, where he was blessed enough to have been surrounded by his loving family. Greg was born in Ogden, Utah, to Darrell and Marian Upp on August 4, 1942. He grew up in Ogden, a place that provided him great childhood memories with extended family. After having met, courted, and marrying Ella, his eternal companion, he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and soon after became sealed to his wife and five children, the most priceless gift he could have rendered his family. He served diligently and faithfully the remainder of his days. He and Ella resided in Grantsville for the majority of their marriage.

His tender spirit and sensitivity drew him close to his family and the simple pleasures of life. He greatly enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially during many summer evenings at Bear Lake with his sweetheart of forty years. His sense of humor and child-like teasing kept him youthful and always playful with his family. Greg was a quiet man, a thoughtful observer, a respecter of life, all of which made him a pleasurable character to be around.

His influence on his three children- Monique James, Alicia Koos, and

Kevin - made him remarkable, for he leaves behind an outstandingly loving and closely tied family who make this world a little more pleasant for those who are fortunate to meet them.

Greg especially exemplified patience and faith during the latest part of his life, when in February 2009 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His family greatly thank the knowledgeable and genuinely caring doctors who sought to take the best care of him. And now, after Greg having been tried and tested true, Heavenly Father welcomes his stalwart son home.

Greg has undoubtedly been received by his predeceased sons' loving arms - Darrell's and Marshall's. Greg's legacy continues as he's survived by his wife, Ella; daughter Monique James and her husband (Billy) and their children (Shantelle, Dustin, Amber, and Alizabeth); daughter Alicia Koos and her husband (Shaun) and their children (Austin, Sydney, Braden, and Caleb); son Kevin and his wife (Marcy) and their son (Marshall); and sister, Maridee, and her husband (Bruce). Also receiving him with open arms are his father (Darrell), mother (Marian), and father-in-law (Blaine Marshall).

On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, his life will be honored by first a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m. and then funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m., both of which taking place at the LDS chapel on 415 West Apple Street in Grantsville, Utah. Interment will take place at the Grantsville City cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Richard Frame and staff, Katrina Rick and Mitzy with CNS home healthcare, Bishop Imlay and the Grantsville 9th Ward, and to all other family and friends.

Dad and Sweetheart, we love you!
