OGDEN – Valerie Caroline VanderDoes, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 14, 2013. She was born on June 22, 1943 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Jerome Curtis and Margaret LaRue Taylor Mietchen.

Valerie graduated from Ogden High School class of 1961. She married Raymond Glen VanderDoes on October 16, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She served as a Temple Worker in the Ogden Temple.

Valerie worked with the Right to Life Movement defending the rights of the unborn.

She loved cooking and won many blue ribbons at the State and County fairs including Best of Show. She loved collecting cookbooks, gardening, personal history, reading, bird watching, art, and was always learning. Valerie enjoyed traveling with Raymond around the country. She loved playing games and teaching tongue twisters to her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband, Raymond G. VanderDoes, Ogden; son, Steven Glen (Kari) VanderDoes, Ogden; daughter, Sheila Rae (Darryl) Moore, Portage; 11 grandchildren including one serving an LDS mission in Argentina; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Jim (Annette) Mietchen, West Valley; and sisters, Deanna Robinson, South Ogden; and Carol (Rob) Jacobs, Sandy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
